I've been in Europe on a vacation, so if this has been discussed at all, pardon me, please.
At the recent training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles, wide receiver (I've always found these football 'positions' amusing... wide receiver, tight end, etc) Terrell Owens ran into some static with the coach as Terrell is used to wearing his black tights at practice (at his former team), rather than those horrid baggy shorts that his new coach insists the team wear. So, Owens had to capitulate and wear the baggy shorts OVER his tights... presumably to protect sensibilities. Considering how skin-tight football pants are, it all seems a silly controversy.
Owens has made followup statements along the lines of: "If I just have my tights on, I feel smooth, fluid, Spider-Man-like," Owens said. "I have given up a lot; for me to wear tights wouldn't be much. At least give me a little leash." The Philadephia Inquirer goes on to comment: 'Just think how much better we all would be at our jobs if we felt 'Spider-Man-like' all day.'
I don't think it a coincidene that Owens is also a fan (and a former team-mate, I believe) of Jerry Rice, who is a major lycra tights freak. Seldom have I seen an article or news tape of Rice in which he is not wearing his tights at practice or running, etc. I remember Rice interviewed by CNN, almost a decade ago, wherein Rice was wearing tights, as was the interviewer! And the cameraman kept panning to Rice's crotch (I kid you not!). I for one, love to see athetes in tights, moreso than dancers.
If anyone has any good photos of Owens or Rice, in their non-football tights, I'd appreciate it.
By the way, the coach now says that if Owens reaches 15 touchdowns, he will relent and let him wear tights, without shorts, to practice. The coach has also vowed that he would wear tights as well... which is a proposition that has most people worried, considering the shape the coach is in!
