It's always a judgement call.
If your jewels were clearly visible because of the transparent, wet spandex, I can understand a negative reaction. There's a grey line between what's a tactful, tasteful bulge and what's purely exhibitionism of the gonads. I might have been as concerned and upset (and probably wincing) if I saw a guy jogging/walking the way you described in wet see-through silver spandex.
You have to accept the consequences or reactions of how _you_ decide to present yourself in various contexts.
I tend toward cycling venues, where I look just as delicious in spandex as the hundreds of other male cyclists. My attire fits the context. In fact many of the cyclists look a lot "showier" than I, but there's no one screaming out "Faggot!", even though there are people of all ages, young and old. What about swim meets? Anatomy and biology classes could be held at swim meets or cycle races! "Through those speedos (or cycle shorts), you can clearly see the male sex organs, consisting of two..." Think of how many swimming or cycling shots we have seen that would be suitable!
There's a sexiness about some degree subtlety--that is, without going overboard.
